In addition to all of the different Certified Stormwater Inspector training classes offered by National Stormwater Center, we now also offer a series of "specialty training" classes.

Examples are:

Industrial SWPPP Development - Attendees learn to develop their own site-specific and sector-specific Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans in class using webinar technology.  This course covers NOI information, building requirements with sector specific responses, development of required reports, and SWPPP organization.  Registrants will receive a 3-ring binder and pre-printed tab dividers, as well as binder cover and spine templates, and a flash drive.  These materials are to be used in class  for the development of the Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.

Permit Shield - Mainly for Industrial Permittees, this course offers a full discussion of the Aprll 2020 Supreme Court ruling that certain non-point discharges can be the equivalent of direct discharges, given time and distance.  In other words, some non-point source discharges may be considered as point source now, and with a Permit Shield, your industrial operation can be covered.

Integrated Planning - Using technology and potential funding from EPA, municipalities may now apply for an integrated planning approach to their Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permits.  Join us to understand how your municipality could benefit from integrating permits and receive grant funding from EPA to achieve your goals.

Re-Certification - All National Stormwater Center graduates have the opportunity to extend their certification for an additional 5 years by attending one of our four-hour Re-Certification classes.  Register for a Re-Certification class in the final year of your CSI certification to gain an additional 5 years of certified status.

CSI Graduate Network - All National Stormwater Center graduates are invited to participate in our monthly discussion-based meetings at no charge!  With a different stormwater topic every month, graduates may attend specific sessions or all sessions of our Network discussions.  Our Network meetings are generally 90 minutes in length.  Any subject-matter experts are welcome to present their ideas and lead a discussion.  Contact us:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Certified Stormwater Inspector - Permit Shield

The recent Supreme Court (SCOTUS) decision to require NPDES permits for indirect discharges including ground water and surface water can impact your organization. You may not discharge pollutants to navigable water without a permit. On 4/23/2020 SCOTUS expanded the requirement for discharges through ground water or across land surface if the discharge is the “functional equivalent of a direct discharge.”

This online webinar course will help you gain an in-depth understanding of the need for a new permit shield, how to determine your risk of enforcement or a citizen suit, and the steps to minimize your exposure to litigation.  The Court provided factors to determine if a permit is required for discharges through ground water and surface water discharges. The shield we present is primarily a permit application for indirect discharges, not necessarily the traditional permit shield with currently issued permits. On Day One of class, we identify the problem; on Day Two we offer solutions.  Examples (not inclusive): Construction drag-outs and washouts, Industrial ash ponds, Commercial radiator shops, Municipal retention ponds, Residential swimming pool discharges, Agricultural fertilizer run-off, POTW sludge to farms.

Attendees receive a Certificate of Participation and .6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) from the National Stormwater Center.

Training and Events

During these times, our Certified Stormwater Inspector training classes are being conducted via instructor-led, interactive webinar technology.  Certification is valid for 5 years. All graduates may take CSI – Recertification to extend their credentials for an additional 5 years.

Permits require "Qualified Personnel" who conduct inspections be part of the Stormwater Team.  The National Stormwater Center certifies graduates.  This certification indicates that the services our graduates conduct are being performed by professionals who have met the established standards of knowledge, experience, and competence required in the field of stormwater inspections.  The National Stormwater Center's Certified Stormwater Inspector classes have been an integral part of the success of 7,333 inspectors across the country.

Here's some recent feedback on our webinars:

"The class reaffirmed most of what I am doing and filled in the gaps to everything I wasn’t sure about."

"I was concerned about this being in webinar format, but I think Jeff did a good job of asking for participation from all of us. It definitely made me stay focused on the content – even though I just wanted to be outside enjoying the nice weather on Tuesday!"

"Laurie is an excellent presenter/instructor and I would be delighted to take a course from her again in the future.  Very interesting material. I wish there was a way to implement it without impeding upon the profit incentive of all the business people of the world.  I guess as the population on the earth increases, even doubling in the next 30 or so years, the need for clean water will become even more of a public incentive and it may become easier to get regulations in place that can help."
