TOPIC: Causes & Effects of Stormwater Permit Non-Compliance: A look at Construction, Industry, and MS4

The assertion that the cost of compliance is cheaper than the cost of non-compliance is generally true. A recent Ponemon Institute study concluded that the average cost of compliance is $5.5 million, while the average price of non-compliance is $15.5 million. Monetary impacts of non-compliance are readily available in court documents, while environmental impacts can be more obtuse, given time and type of pollutant discharges. But what are the causes of non-compliance? Why would people and/or entities continue to choose not to follow permit requirements, knowing these actions could well be discovered, called out, and ultimately result in lawsuits? Please join us to discuss these issues and the role of the stormwater inspector.

These discussion meetings are free to current Certified Stormwater Inspectors (CSI)™ while non-current CSI graduates, and the general public, can join sessions for a $25 registration fee..

CSI Network meetings are scheduled for a Wednesday once monthly beginning at 1:00 PM EDT.  Each session is scheduled for no more than 90 minutes.
