IMPORTANT NOTICE

Until we can end physical distancing due to COVID-19 all of our classes are being conducted as live, interactive webinars.  Using GoToWebinar, we can create virtual classrooms with instructor-led training, and we can include input, questions, and feedback from each attendee.  If the device you connect with does not have a microphone and speaker, you can use a dial-in phone number to speak directly with us.  We have been conducting webinar-based training since 2010, and it seems that all of us will need to use this as platform well into the future.  We encourage you to give it a try - we think you'll enjoy the experience!

CSI for Construction & Development and MS4 Personnel

Some of the most complex NPDES stormwater permits are those for the Construction and Development (C&D) industry. Navigating through the process of staying in compliance while updating a project's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) when site changes happen daily, and sometimes every few hours, is challenging.

Many states have required Erosion & Sediment control courses. These classes are critical for C&D personnel, and the National Stormwater Center instructors teach these courses on a regular basis. However, E&SC classes are about the dirt while our CSI Basic Construction and Advanced Construction CSI for green infrastructure courses focus on the water.

C&D personnel need to understand how to control volume and velocity, how to prevent stormwater and meltwater from picking up pollutants and transporting them, and how to conduct phased construction while staying in compliance with a complex regulatory permit.

Municipal personnel need to understand their role, authority, and discretion for inspecting project sites. They need to assess the effectiveness of controls and be effective working with C&D personnel to keep pollutants out of their community waters. Additionally, municipalities often have construction projects of their own for which they must have permits. These projects often include roadways and bridges.

Our CSI-Basic Construction course gives C&D and Municipal personnel the in-depth understanding they need of the permit that regulates their projects. Our CSI-Advanced Construction green infrastruture course provides an in-depth understanding of the various means by which water can be controlled both on and exiting from project sites.  And, of course, we offer Erosion & Sediment Control courses.

Permits require that "Qualified Personnel" who conduct inspections be part of the Stormwater Team, National Stormwater Center certifies graduates.  This certification indicates that the services our graduates conduct are being performed by professionals who have met the established standards of knowledge, experience, and competence required in the field of stormwater inspections.
