About Our Courses – Over 14,000 Inspectors Trained!
The National Stormwater Center’s certified courses focus on training stormwater inspectors who are charged with understanding permits, interpreting and enforcing permit regulations, and who serve as our best defense against pollutants entering America’s waterbodies by inspecting regulated construction, municipal, and industrial activities.
Permit compliance is the key to achieving the goals of the Clean Water Act, and it is these inspectors who make the difference. Our courses are developed and presented by former Federal and State stormwater enforcement officers for the purpose of cultivating stormwater inspectors who are knowledgeable and who possess the necessary skills and demeanor to be effective in their duties.
Graduates of our classes, who must achieve a minimum overall testing score of 75%, are awarded certification by the National Stormwater Center. This certification indicates that the services they conduct are being performed by professionals who have met the established standards of knowledge, experience, and competence required in the field of stormwater inspections.
Our Certified Stormwater Inspector (CSI) course offerings include:
CSI – Municipal (MS4) * All States and U.S. Territories
CSI – Basic Construction
CSI – Advanced Construction: Green Infrastructure
CSI – Industrial for Permittees
CSI – Re-Certification * For all graduates (MS4, Construction, or industrial)

Here's some recent feedback on our webinars:
"We had a great time – all of us. Everybody reported in afterwards and it was a hot topic in our group texts after it concluded. This is a large portion of what that group handles on a daily basis."
"The class reaffirmed most of what I am doing and filled in the gaps to everything I wasn't sure about."
"I was concerned about this being in webinar format, but I think Jeff did a good job of asking for participation from all of us. It definitely made me stay focused on the content – even though I just wanted to be outside enjoying the nice weather on Tuesday!"
"Very interesting material. I wish there was a way to implement it without impeding upon the profit incentive of all the business people of the world. I guess as the population on the earth increases, even doubling in the next 30 or so years, the need for clean water will become even more of a public incentive and it may become easier to get regulations in place that can help."
