TOPIC: Supplementing Stormwater Inspections and Water Sampling with UAV Technology

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, are aircraft without onboard pilots which are controlled remotely or autonomously as part of an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS, formerly known as UFOs). Drone technology is increasingly integrated into stormwater programs as cost-effective and readily quick ways to assess current conditions, ex: flooding or oil spills. While they cannot replace "boots on the ground" inspections, gaining an aerial view can provide enhanced assessments of large sites/large projects, ex: reaching 70% vegetative cover.

Led by a self-professed inexpert in UAVs, this CSI Network Discussion will present both pros and cons of drone usage in stormwater, as well as current information about the UAV industry overall.

The National Stormwater Center offers a series of monthly discussions on critical stormwater inspection issues. Called CSI Network, these discussions are delivered via interactive webinars, and the topics apply to municipal, construction, and industrial regulations, permits, and inspections.

These discussion meetings are free to current Certified Stormwater Inspectors (CSI)™, while non-current CSI graduates and the general public can join sessions for a $25 registration fee.

CSI Network meetings are scheduled for a Wednesday once a month, beginning at 1:00 PM EDT.  Each session is scheduled for no more than 90 minutes.  Check the registration calendar for exact dates.

Registered participants will receive a Subject Statement by email that identifies the problems and potential solutions for each topic prior to each meeting. This will afford you the opportunity to prepare.
